Dive beneath the surface

FreeDiving

When I spend time in the ocean I have no other choice, than to be completely present

I learned to freedive in Ballina, New South Wales. I also grew up and spent most of my life in a small town in Ireland called Ballina. Although these towns 17,200 kms apart, its small things like this that make me think, I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.

Freediving makes me be fully present, it sharpens my senses. It has taught me to stay calm while shooting in the chaotic waves and how to interact with wildlife just below the surface.

While interacting with Wildlife in the ocean, nothing can be forced. Freediving allows a completely natural connection with the ocean. The animals take a breath and dive, and so do we.

Although there is definitely luck involved in wildlife photography, it seems to me the hours I put in and more time I spend in the ocean, the luckier I get.
